When receiving a feed ration report from a nutritionist or our formulation engine, you encounter several technical metrics: DM, CP, RUP, NEL, NDF, peNDF, IOFC.

Each parameter represents an essential component of your herd's metabolic engine. Understanding these 7 core metrics ensures full control over feed quality and economic return.


1. Dry Matter (DM) — Pure Nutritional Mass

  • Definition: The actual nutritional fraction remaining once all moisture is removed.
  • Why it matters: Ruminants ingest nutrients based on Dry Matter capacity, not raw bulk weight.
  • Practical Example: Feeding 20 kg of corn silage at 35% DM delivers 7 kg of actual feed and 13 liters of water. For dry hay (85% DM), a 10 kg bale provides 8.5 kg of solid nutrition. All accurate zootechnical calculations are strictly conducted on a Dry Matter basis.

2. Crude Protein (CP) vs. Rumen Undegradable Protein (RUP) — Production Drivers
